Like much of my work, the toothsome lion sculpture began with a fun antique. I liked the colors on this old tin and the notion of tooth powder. Who even knows what tooth powder is anymore? And then the play on words came to me. Clearly the lion in this sculpture has been powdering away as his teeth are bright and white!
I created the lion from four different colored clay bodies, fired to cone 5 and finished with stain and washes. I also added some fun nylon whiskers to help frame those pearly whites. As it stands in the main photo, the toothsome lion sculpture measures about 6.5 inches tall and long.
