Description

The inspiration for this cat and goldfish sculpture is a little tin plate that dates to 1939. Some of you will recognize the characters from the Pinocchio cartoon. On the little dish, Figaro that cat looks longingly at Cleo the goldfish. But that was the scene prior to this sculpture. In the sculpture, a plump and satisfied black and white sits behind a dinner plate with the tail of a goldfish sticking out of his mouth.

I created the sculpture from different colored clay bodies, fired to cone 5 and finished with stains and color wash. The cat, goldfish, and plate all rest on a blue rug base with a fun swirl pattern.
