I don’t know exactly where my idea of building animal riders for old toys came from, but this elephant riding on duck helped start the series. The elephant is carefully crafted with great detail. Check out it’s richly textured skin, wise elephant eyes, and upturned truck (which I understand means good luck!). I built the elephant riding on duck primarily from a red stoneware clay with copper carbonate stain applied to bring out the textures. Although the duck pull-toy is not an antique, it is full of character and serves as a perfect complement to this pedaling pachyderm. The whimsical sculpture stands about 14 inches high.
